Accommodation & meals
Ask for room category, occupancy, included meals and beverages. Compare the same scope rather than a room label.

SAFARIS · CLEARER CHOICES
Start with the route, guiding and time you want in each place. Then compare accommodation, included activities and the real scope of each offer.
Prepare my safari questionsUnderstand the cost componentsFIRST, SEPARATE THE DECISIONS
Treat the journey, each activity and the accommodation as separate decisions. Ask whether your party has its own guide for the entire route, just a dedicated vehicle on selected days, or a room at a lodge with shared activities. Those descriptions are not interchangeable.
The choices below are an editorial framework for comparing offers, not a ranking or a complete market overview. They can be combined: a self-drive stage and a guided activity do not have to be mutually exclusive. Availability and permission must be confirmed for the specific place.
YOUR NEXT CONVERSATION
Choose a travel style to prepare specific questions. This is a starting point, not an operator recommendation.
Clarify the vehicle, guiding and daily arrangements for your party. A private itinerary does not automatically make every activity exclusive.
COMPARE LIKE WITH LIKE
This is a comparison checklist, not a price calculation. A low headline rate is not comparable until inclusions, exclusions and cancellation terms are clear.
Ask for room category, occupancy, included meals and beverages. Compare the same scope rather than a room label.
Separate exclusive guiding, shared drives and optional excursions. Ask which activities require advance booking.
Include airport pickup, lodge changes and any domestic or charter flights. Ask for actual journey times and luggage rules.
Request park or conservation fees, taxes, mandatory extras and the treatment of deposits separately. Check validity dates and currency.
PLACE-SPECIFIC, NOT AFRICA-WIDE
Do not transfer a rule from one park, concession or operator to another. These official examples show why the exact location and activity matter.
SANParks lists morning, sunset and night drives for Kruger, with timings that vary through the year. Its listed game drives exclude children under six. Check the actual activity rather than assuming that a family-friendly lodge guarantees participation. SANParks
Botswana Tourism distinguishes driving rules in official parks and reserves from opportunities in private concessions. Its self-drive guidance also stresses established tracks. Do not treat “off-road” or “night drive” as an inclusion until the specific location and operator confirm it. Botswana Tourism
There is no useful universal number. Ask for a day-by-day schedule showing transfers, activities and free time. Compare the time spent in each place with time in transit before adding another border crossing or lodge change.
Treat wildlife highlights as a reason to discuss your interests, not a guaranteed result. Ask the operator to distinguish a planned activity, access permission and an actual sighting. The guide does not predict sightings or recommend a single best season.
Ask the operator privately about age limits, vehicle access, walking distances, room arrangements and assistance. Share only what is necessary. This page collects no health, identity or booking information and is not medical or entry advice.
Compare on-trip coordination separately and prepare questions about transfers, connectivity and existing insurance.
